GREEN READING FOR KIDS

I love nature and kids, and believe that 'green reading',  i.e. children's books with an environmental emphasis, makes also us – the adults reading those books for our kids – more aware of the state and condition of the world we are leaving for our children.

THE POWER OF POETRY

I believe strongly in the power of poetry when reading for the children: the rhyme makes it is easier for a child to remember even difficult words or complex sentences. This can be helpful in avoiding future difficulties in reading.

FACTS CHECKED BY THE FINNISH MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

My books represent an unusual genre: a mix of poetry and non-fiction. The information is ”baked” in humorous poems, colorful illustrations and short fact sections – making the learning much more fun for the little ones! All the facts of both books were checked by Jaakko Kullberg from the Finnish Museum of Natural History.

EXCELLENT TRANSLATIONS

The translations of the poems and facts are of excellent: English by Owen Witesman, Swedish by Janina Orlov, French by Sebastién Cagnoli, German by Stefan Moster and Japanese by Makiko Lommi.

EXHIBITIONS AROUND THE BOOKS  IN FINLAND AND ABROAD

I also have arranged multiple ’The Animals’ World Exhibitions in several children’s cultural centers and galleries all around in Finland.

Internationally the books illustrated the Finnish Stand in TIBE, Taipei Book Fair, Taiwan in 2012 & 2013 as the themes were Green Reading and Joyful Reading.

NOMINEE FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

In 2009, my first book & the exhibition around it was a nominee for The City of Helsinki Environmental Award – an annual recognition for valuable acts to improve the state of our environment and the wellbeing of people.

INSPIRATION FOR THE SCHOOL CHILDREN

The exhibitions have inspired children and their parents as well as teachers in kindergardens, pre- and elementary schools to discuss environmental issues, read & write poems – draw and paint.
